Maize cultivation in saline areas: Doubling and transplanting techniques
Maize cultivation in saline areas: Doubling – Most of the coastal areas in the south-western part of the country are affected by various levels of salinity. In this saline area, only aman paddy is produced during the monsoon season, as it comes to the land in February or March, so it is not possible to strengthen the paddy in the sacks. It is possible to increase the density of the crop in the south-west by cultivating maize using seedling transplantation method. 20-25 day old seedlings are transplanted at relatively short distances on low lying lands, salinity is a serious problem for South Bengal, salinity creates unfavorable environment for crop production and results in low yield of several crops throughout the year, especially during Rabi season.
Agricultural land is fallow. If maize can be cultivated in the dry season for salinity, the farmer will benefit financially and a new door of possibility will be opened in our agriculture. Maize is one more Yielding cereals. Corn is a Gramineae crop whose scientific name is Zea mays. Corn is native to Mexico. Maize is called macha. Granules are formed inside the machete. This granule is a fruit of the genus Karyopsis, in which the skin and the seed skin are mixed together, so the fruit and the seed cannot be distinguished. Maize is more nutritious than rice and wheat. The market price of maize is also much higher. Climate and soil of Bangladesh are suitable for maize cultivation. In the context of Bangladesh, maize is a potential crop, especially in the south where farmers can do nothing but rice for salinity. The main advantage of doubling and transplanting method is that it helps in reducing soil erosion. The advantage of this method is that it is possible to prepare the land by cultivating the land in general.
At least 1-1 / 2 months before the cultivation of maize, it is possible to do dubbing and sowing / sowing of seeds without cultivating the land. It is possible to pick the crop before the rains come. As a result of this method of cultivation, there is a bright prospect of increasing maize cultivation in the country by cultivating an additional crop in the fallow lands of the dry season in the south-west. Requires comparatively less seeds and helps in faster germination.
It is possible to get the expected amount of maize if planted at the correct and uniform distance. The doubling / wrapping method is important for oiling the house to protect the crop from the effects of Kalbaishakhi. Only by dibli and sapling planting method it is possible to get the crop before the salinity increases. Economic contribution Maize is the only high yielding crop that has versatile uses. At present maize production is much more profitable than paddy. Income can be increased from maize at relatively low cost which is farmer friendly. Corn is being used everywhere as cow-food, fish food, poultry feed and above all human food.
Although Mexico is native to Mexico, it grows in many parts of the world. Maize requires 50 mm to 100 mm of rainfall. Lifespan is 130 to 150 days.
Sandy-loam and loamy soils are suitable for maize cultivation. However, it is also possible to cultivate maize in etal loam and clay soils. Care should be taken so that water does not accumulate in the soil. Maize cultivation is comparatively better in soils where it is possible to keep ‘joe’ longer.
Time of seed sowing
The best time to sow seeds is in mid-Kartik-Mid-Magh (November-January) in the saline areas of southern Bangladesh. If the seeds are soaked for 24 hours and sown in the field, good results can be obtained. For Shuvra, Barnali and Maher varieties maize seeds are sown at the rate of 25-30 kg per hectare, hybrid maize seeds at the rate of 20-22 kg per hectare and khaibutta varieties at the rate of 15-20 kg per hectare. Seeds should be sown in rows. The distance from row to row will be 60 cm. 25 cm in a row. At a distance of 1 or 50 cm. 2 trees should be kept at a distance.
Fertilizer quantity and fertilizer application method:
The amount of fertilizer should be determined on the basis of soil test by examining the soil of the concerned land. However, different types of fertilizers need to be prescribed for hybrid maize cultivation by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute. However, the general dose of different types of fertilizers prescribed by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute for hybrid maize cultivation is given in Table-1.
Table 1: Amount of fertilizer (hectare / kg)
|Fertilizer name||Fertilizer name|
|Zinc sulphate||10-15 kg|
|Boric acid (as needed)||5-6 kg|
One-third of urea, half of TSP and all other fertilizers prescribed in 2-3 days of doubling / seedling transplanting. Must be sprinkled on the ground. One-third of urea fertilizer. Apply after 30 days for doubling and 15 days after transplanting. Urea fertilizer residue. 30 days for doubling one-third and half of phosphorus And 15 days after transplanting of seedlings, DAP fertilizer should be mixed in 6 consecutive installments and applied on the seedlings.
If you want to get the expected yield of high yielding variety of maize, Robi Irrigation application is essential during the season. Invented varieties can be irrigated twice. The land must be kept weed free within 40-50 days of sowing the first irrigation seed and 60-70 days after sowing the second irrigation seed till the age of one month. After doubling, additional seedlings should be removed from the land within 30 days of seedling emergence and 15 days after transplanting. When the seedlings are 30-35 days old, the soil between the two rows should be dug up and put in the corn plant.
Suppression of anger – Maize cultivation in saline areas: Doubling
Healthy, vigorous and wound free seeds and corn seed rot resistant varieties should be used. Adding Thiram or Vitavex (0.25%) at the rate of 2.5-3.0 gm per kg of seed and cultivating the seeds reduces the attack of corn seed rot. In order to control corn stem rot, seeds should be treated with fungicide VataVex-200.
In case of collection of maize for grains, macha is suitable for collection if it has a bright straw color and the leaves are slightly yellow. In this condition, black spots can be seen at the base of the seed without removing the mocha. Maize can be collected when the cob is 75-80% mature.
We can also cultivate maize by planting seedlings without doubling method. For this, first the seedbed should be prepared and the seeds should be sown and the seedlings of certain age should be planted in the land. In this case 15 days, 20 days or 25 days old seedlings can be transplanted. If maize is cultivated by transplanting seedlings, it is possible to harvest the desired crop before facing various problems.
